Taluna is made of just a few honest ingredients: grass-fed New Zealand tallow, cocoa butter, jojoba oil and native kawakawa, gently scented - and nothing else. No water, no synthetic fillers, no long list you can't pronounce. Traditional tallow balm is simply rendered, purified tallow (beef fat); we blend in cocoa butter and jojoba for a lighter feel, plus kawakawa, a native New Zealand botanical. That's the whole jar.

Tallow balm is used as a simple, rich moisturiser - for face, hands and body. It softens and smooths dry-feeling skin, helps skin feel less tight, and leaves a light protective layer that holds moisture in, which makes it especially good through cold, wind and dry indoor heating. We won't tell you it cures anything, because it doesn't. It's just very good at the honest job of moisturising.

Cosmetic-grade tallow is tallow that's been processed and refined specifically for skincare, rather than for cooking. Most cheap tallow balm uses food-grade tallow - the same stuff you'd fry with. We use cosmetic-grade: more refined, more thoroughly filtered, and processed to a standard made for putting on skin. It costs noticeably more than food-grade, but it's the reason Taluna has a smooth texture and no beefy smell.

Not better - lighter. Whipping folds air through the balm so it spreads thin and sinks in fast, without the heavy, greasy feel of a firm balm. Most people find whipped nicer for the face and for everyday use. The tallow itself is the same; the texture is what changes.

Yes. Use a small amount pressed into clean, slightly damp skin, ideally at night. Because Taluna is whipped, it's lighter than a traditional firm balm, so it's easier to apply the tiny amount your face actually needs without feeling greasy. If your skin is very oily, layer it lightly. As with any new skincare, patch test on a small area first.

No. Cheap, food-grade tallow can carry a beefy note - Taluna doesn't. We use cosmetic-grade tallow, blended and whipped in a dedicated cosmetics facility, so the base is clean and neutral. The only scent you'll notice is the gentle fragrance of your chosen blend: warm coconut, calming lavender, or rich ylang ylang.

Yes - completely, and it's a good sign. Taluna is whipped tallow with no added water or fillers, so it sets denser than a lotion, and in cold weather it firms up more still. That's it working as intended: concentrated, not watered down. Scoop a small amount, warm it between your fingers for a few seconds until it turns silky, and it melts straight into skin. A little goes a long way.

Taluna is made in New Zealand, in a dedicated cosmetics manufacturing facility - not a home kitchen or garage. Every jar is whipped and filled there, from grass-fed New Zealand tallow. Making it in a proper facility is what lets us hold every batch to a consistent standard for texture, quality and scent.

Most people get 6 to 8 weeks of daily use from a 100 ml jar. Tallow balm is concentrated, so a little goes a long way: a small amount for the face, a bit more for hands, elbows and heels.

No - we never test Taluna on animals. We do want to be straight with you, though: tallow is rendered beef fat, so Taluna isn't vegan. It's made from grass-fed tallow, a by-product of the meat industry that would otherwise go to waste. If animal-derived ingredients aren't for you, we'd rather you know that up front.

If your balm arrives damaged, faulty, or it isn't what you ordered, email us within 7 days with your order number and a photo. We'll cover return shipping and either send a replacement or refund you in full - that applies whether the jar has been opened or not. If you've changed your mind, we can accept unopened jars with the seal intact, returned within 30 days of delivery in their original packaging; because balm goes straight onto your skin, we can't take opened jars back for a change of mind, which is a hygiene requirement and standard across skincare. Either way, email hello@taluna.co.nz and we'll talk you through it. Once your return reaches us, refunds are processed within 10 business days. None of this affects your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act.
